What is ChromeOS Flex?
ChromeOS Flex is a fast, secure, cloud-first, easy-to-manage operating system for Macs and PCs. It is designed to refresh older devices, increasing their performance for more efficient teaching and learning.
What is the difference between Chromebook and ChromeOS Flex?
Chrome OS is available only for Chromebooks, whereas Chrome OS Flex can be installed on any computer with Windows and MacOS. Chrome OS is protected with Google's security chip, but Chrome OS Flex doesn't require Google's security chip for protection. Chrome OS Flex doesn't include support for Android apps.
Chrome OS Flex offers an inexpensive way to browse the web and run web. While it's not for power users or gamers, it's a great choice for students and casual computer users.
Chrome OS Flex does not support the running of programmes such as Rootsmagic, Ancestral Quest or Legacy, but some computers in our FamilySearch Centres will retain these programmes.
As interest and use of the Google Chrome OS Flex platform increases, further notes and points of interest will be added to this page.
